Where Are the Lighthouses?

Have you ever been to a lighthouse? They are sometimes very beautiful structures and in some places have become pretty big tourist attractions. Today many people might not think lighthouses are a big deal because they really do not serve as big of a purpose as they used to, but there was a time when lighthouses were vital. Before the age of GPS and electric lights on ships, ships had no way of being able to see the shore at night. They lighthouse served the purpose of shinning a bright light which directed the ships to go in the right direction, otherwise the ships could run into a cliff or just plain miss their ports entirely. What good would it be if the lighthouse was hidden? It would have been worthless. Instead they were to be shined brightly and the very lives of many people were at stake.

The question I raise to you today is where are the lighthouses for people’s souls? What is there to help guide people to the right direction in their lives, guiding them away from Hell? Well Jesus gave us the answer to this very question.

"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” –Matthew 5:14-16

You see the lighthouses are you! If you are a follower of Jesus you are called to be a lighthouse. You are called to shine your light among others and direct them to the word of God which will direct them to the gate of Heaven. This does come with responsibility because we must remember that we are examples of God’s mercy, love, and grace and must reflect that to others by showing them love. We also must not be ashamed of the gospel but live the gospel and shine it with how we live our lives. There are many lost ships out there in the dark. It is time to turn on your light and let it shine for others to see.

“Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life.” –Philippians 2:14-16
